Wahed Magee was at a fraternity party when someone yelled that there was a car prowler outside. Wahed, a 21-year-old with dreams of becoming a police officer, ran outside. Gunshots rang out. Wahed lay bleeding on the cement.

Mr. Magee was rushed to Southwest Medical Center. A Code 3, he was wheeled immediately into surgery. A call came to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and the Mobile Surgical Transport Team was activated. A surgeon, nurse, respiratory therapist, and OR crew flew to SWMC. The operation was completed and Wahed was transported back to Emanuel.

Mr. Magee had multiple internal injuries from the gunshot wounds he sustained that night. These required many, many units of blood, blood products, and countless surgeries to repair the numerous holes in his vital organs. His abdomen was left open due to swelling and complications of infection from the dirty bullets.

Wahed, his family, and his friends, never lost hope, and several months later he was discharged from the hospital with a very large scar to show off on his abdomen. Officer Magee is currently a police officer in California and suffers no side effects from his ordeal.
